Trademark Searches

In order to advise whether a trademark is clear for use and registration or to analyse the risks associated with using it, we need to conduct trademark searches.

We need to have details of your trademark:

• Is it going to consist of words only?
• Is it stylised?
• Does it have a logo or picture with it?
• Is it a logo or picture on its own?
• What do you want to use it for and in which countries?
• Have you been using the mark, if so we will ask you for details?

We can undertake trademark searches anywhere in the world and can advise you regarding its availability for use and the likelihood of successfully registering your chosen mark.

Word marks

We normally begin the clearance process for a trademark containing or consisting of words by undertaking an identical trademark search of the relevant registers. Depending on the results we may advise full phonetic searches as words can be mis-spelt and may conflict with other trademarks.

Combined word and logo marks

We may recommend that a trademark, which contains a logo, picture or device, also be subject to a logo search.
